vintage babywear

I so love baby wear, which is why I make it,
but today I want to show you some of my Vintage collection
of baby wear

When my children were born many years ago
we used to love to put them into white cotton
For sleeping they wore long cotton nighties that tied with a sash
It was wrapped around the back and then brought around to the front to tie
so they didn't lie on a knot.
While I didn't keep any from those days
These are some very old ones I have collected
including a  bonnet
Bonnets were always worn in the home to protect from draughts

This little smocked dress is over 100 years old
The fabric is Viella
not readily available today
It is a very fine wool
If you do find it,it will be extremely expensive
I use twill which is a mixed fibre and similar to look at

This handmade Christening Gown is also over 100 years old
and is exquisite. I so love it

The lace is pure cotton and the fabric voile
It is so soft and would have been very comfortable for a new baby

These are some roses I dried, they don't always turn out as nice as this
I love the colour

I am joining some lovely linky parties this week
The links are on my sidebar

My mother used to make shirts for my father out of Viyella fabric. He loved the wool/cotton blend! It was lightweight and warm! I remember buying Viyella fabric for his shirts on a trip to Great Britain in the 1980s. I wish it were still available today.

Hi Jeanetteann,
The baby wear is precious! I agree with LV, some little baby was blessed to wear such beautiful clothes. And you, my friend, have a real talent making baby clothes, judging by what I have seen different times visiting. You have a real gift! Thank you for sharing with us and enjoy your day.

Blessings,
Sandi

What gorgeous craftsmanship on those gowns! If only they still made everything with the same fine touch today.
