Freshening up the hallway & new finds

We decided the hallway needed freshening up,although
we are quite happy with the colours,it just looked a bit
tired. I had been putting up pictures and photo's haphazardly
and it had gotten a little out of control.

The border was still in good order, and was quite expensive when we
bought it 10yrs ago,so didn't want to replace it.

My hubby painted the Lemon Gelati,a Solver colour, above the border
and it was my job to painstakingly, with a tiny brush
paint around the scalloped border
The Sparkling Burgundy, a Wattle colour, below the dado rail,
was still quite good
so we left it.

We took all the pictures and photo's down,
so time for a rethink

Slowly we started rearranging them on the floor,
then up onto the walls

We left quite a few off the left hand side,as it
was too crowded with mismatched ones

These are a few embroideries I completed a few years ago

Pink glass collection

Children and Grand children photo's

I had to include this picture as I love this series,I have a few more similar
in other rooms. Of cause I always include some cherubs somewhere

Our ancestors grouped together

A little Welcome cushion I embroidered

This light fitting was in the house when we bought it 18 yrs ago
I think it probably was an original to the home which is circa 1910,
an Edwardian Villa
Although it's quite nice,we really have been thinking about
a nice crystal chandelier instead, which would give us more light.
Although we did put in a skylight,it's at night when visitors
come it seems a bit dark. We have 2 table lamps which help.

Not sure really, as we think this looks Edwardian
I suppose they had chandeliers in Edwardian times, what do you think?

More family photo's on our 1840 antique table

I had some pretty rose patterned fabric,so made a cover
(of cause with a ruffle) love ruffles, for the old chest by the entrance

It's only for a change really. I do love the chest so will probably
only leave it there for a short while.

The cushions I made. The one on the left I smocked

Before I go and join the linky parties around blog land,
I must show you 2 new little finds.
This delightful little pink glass birdie and pretty English Teacup
$3 the two. Bargain, just need to find its saucer, which shouldn't
be hard,as it's the cups that are usually scarce.

I was happy to find out that I was featured by Deborah at Green Willow Pond
last week,I am very honoured, thank you Deborah

You will find all the links to the lovely blogs I follow and the linky parties

I hope you have a fun week

Thrifty finds,vintage pram & thingymajig.

I was extremely lucky to get this gorgeous vintage pram
given to my by a friend
It belonged to her as a child and her mother as a child before that
It's over 100yrs old

I love the worn wicker and wheels
It just shows how much it has been played with and enjoyed over the years

After giving it a good clean, I didn't want to change it much
so decided to make some covers for it
I made a white cover for the inside,a new mattress
and embroidered a babies vintage pillow case

I think my Sugar Britches porcelain doll I made and dressed
in a christening gown.(made from a vintage bridal train
looks lovely in the pram.

Now this is the thingymajig?I mentioned
I say that because I've no idea what it was meant for,
but I found it in the RSPCA charity shop for $2
For some strange reason I couldn't resist it.
I haven't painted it,it was already silver

I thought it would look good in the garden somewhere

I had these lovely pewter butterflies that are for clipping onto
and outdoor tablecloth when it's windy.

I clipped them onto the branches of the thingymajig

I just love when the sun shines on it and makes it sparkle

Whatever it was meant to be,I love it.

I hope your'e having a nice weekend

Pretty new look for bath and hand towels

I sorted through my linen press today and came upon a pair of towels
that had frayed badly along the side edges.

Now I hate to waste anything and had left them in the cupboard
because the main part of the towels was still quite thick

I cut 4 strips of fabric the length of the sides plus a few centimetres
for turning in at the ends

Sew onto towel sides, right sides together

Turn to the other side and with a little turn under to hide raw edge
sew right through all layers.

I am so pleased to get some more life out of these.
I love to make do and mend. It gives me a lot of satisfaction,
and saves me heaps of money

I had some fabric left over,so made a nice border along
both ends of 2 hand towels

I am quite pleased with my efforts
Don't you just love days when you achieve so much.

An Afternoon in the kitchen and more

I spent the whole afternoon in the kitchen cooking and baking today
I shopped for veggies in the morning ( I have quite a few in the garden )
but not all ready yet.

Please remember that if you buy veggies that are not organic,
wash them in cold water, then soak for 10mins in water which you have added
a good splash of vinegar, then rinse again
This gets rid of all the chemicals and toxins that you really don't want to be eating.

First I roasted quite a few

Then I made   zucchini slice (recipe follows)

zucchini slice

1/2 an onion,chopped finely
1/4 cup oil
4 sml zucchini,I used 2 large (grated) I do everything in the food processor)
2 medium carrots (grated)
3 silver beet leaves (chopped)
3 sprigs parsley ( chopped)
11/2 cups grated cheese
4 eggs beaten
11/2 cups SR flour (I used wholemeal)
Salt and pepper ( I use freshly ground sea salt)

Grease a lasagna dish or similar
heat oven to 180 c
mix everything (except flour) together
 Then fold in flour
Bake in the oven until firm and golden

We love our veggies and eat a salad for lunch every day,
and quite often with dinner too.

we mix fruit in with the salad, This is a mixed lettuce
base with tomato, melon, pear, capsicum and cucumber
For protein I add feta or tuna. This has feta cheese

Coleslaw and freshly cooked beetroot
I use cabbage carrot, apple, onion and celery in the coleslaw
I squeeze the juice of a small lemon over the top and mix in

It keeps in the fridge covered with cling wrap for a week
I don't put the mayonnaise on until ready to use.

Choc chip shortbread. ( I use chopped up melts)
and wholemeal flour

Freshly baked bread

and butter rolls

I think the freezer and fridge is well stocked for the week

What I did yesterday

I found this image on a blog,and I'm sorry, I can't remember which one
If it's yours, please let me know and I will give you credit for it

I found the lovely frame at Ikea for $9.95
and printed off the image and put it in the frame.

I had quite a few nice shells
and was not sure what to do with them.
Then I was visiting one of my blogger friends
She had them set on a silver tray with tea candles
All glittered up.
I'm sorry again but I can't remember which blog it was again

I sprayed them white and then sprayed with glue
then sprinkled with silver glitter.
Set on a silver tray they look really nice.

Well that's all for now
See you at the linky parties
the links are on my side bar.
