Queen Elizabeth 11 Diamond Jubilee

THE CORONATION OF QUEEN ELIZABETH 11, 59 YRS AGO

I was just 7yrs old in June 1953
I can remember as if it were yesterday

I think the Queen is so beautiful and have never forgotten the excitement of the
party we had in the street where we lived.

I grew up in the West Midlands of England, although I now live in Australia

I have some mementoes from that day.

Everyone took part in the fancy dress at the party

The photo is of my two brothers,my mother and me all
dressed up
All the children were given gifts, a mug with Queen Elizabeth, a 5 shilling piece
in a little plastic case (my grandson has mine now in his coin  collection)
and post office stamps in a little commemorative card

My mother made all our costumes, even my crown

My mother was dressed as Good Queen Bess
I was Queen Elizabeth11
My elder brother was King Henry V111
I can't quite remember what my younger brother was.

Everyone decorated their homes, and windows. Banners and Flags were draped across the street.

This is a biscuit tin from the day
and a needlecraft magazine, cost one shilling, with embroidery patterns to commemorate the Coronation

Embroidery to use as a cover for the Radio Times

.

                                   Jubilees and other milestones

A Tapestry of the Golden Coach and procession

Embroidery Transfers for the Coronation

A Jacobean design embroidered cushion for the Coronation

THE DIAMOND JUBILEE
THE 2ND JUNE WE WILL BE ALL SITTING IN FRONT OF THE TELEVISION WATCHING
THIS MOST BEAUTIFUL,EXCITING EVENT,
59yrs after that eventful day in 1953

I wonder if you will be having a party in your street,
There won't be one where I live, but in my mind I will be back in 1953
reliving the excitement of that day.
I will also be looking forward to visiting my favourite bloggerette friends to see their
DIAMOND.JUBILEE POSTS

I really enjoyed this post. Living in the US all my life Royalty has always been so interesting to me. Those items you have must be worth a lot! I used to be so crazy about Lady Diana--I remember when I heard of her death I was driving home from a cat show and had to pull over I was so upset. I so enjoyed the weddings. Her sons seem like such good and "regular" boys.

Have a good weekend!
