A Childhood Treasure

Do you still have books from your childhood?

I loved my books and read all of the time.

My favourite book was Black Beauty and all Beatrix Potter and books by the Bronte' Sisters
Unfortunately they were all donated to the children's hospital when I migrated to Australia in the early 60's with my brothers and parents.

I did manage however to smuggle this little gem of 1947 into my suitcase as it got missed when the box of goodies to the hospital was packed and sent.

My brothers and I were only aloud to read it after our bath time, so that it remained in good condition.
Here are a few pages from this little book.

My children also used it and even signed their names in the front.

I am always on the hunt for the replacement books I once treasured.

I've yet to find Black Beauty though. It was all the more special because I received it for Christmas from my Grandparents. They had also signed it in the front. I think somewhere some child would still have it and I often think it would be much loved as I loved it.

I always like to see a name in the front of old books,it makes them more special.

Join me this week when I visit my usual blog parties and maybe some new one's

That is so sweet. I never was much into books--I still don't have the patience to sit and read. I did read Nancy Drew as a kid. Now I love old books to use as decoration! It is always fun to have something from your childhood. TFS!

Jeanetteann,
I Love this post.
I love old books. I pick them up whenever possible. I've read many of the "old" ones as an adult. As a small child I loved the Gerber story books and as I got a little older I loved the Nancy Drew and The Hardy Boys books. I think I read every single one.
My latest good reads have been "The Thornbirds" (long but, very good), "Elizabeth" (Taylor) and "Ginger" (Ginger Rogers bio) and... "Lavendar and Old Lace (a very old book).
As of late.... the only thing I have time to read are my decorating and craft magazines.
Never enough time in the day!
Have a great weekend.
See you soon!

Oh, I with you there. Nancy Drew books were my most favorites of all. I was going to grow up and solve mysteries. I was so disappointed when my daughter had no interest in them.

I love to collect children's books! The one you kept is very special! I'll look for Black Beauty when I thrift shop. Do you want a copy from the '60s? Hugs, Diane ♥

What a sweet book and treasure to have. Love it when our children can enjoy things from our childhood.
Thank you for stopping by. Yes, a jelly cupboard was used to store home-made preserves and such. Usually they have doors on the bottom.

Hi Jeanette! So glad you have at least one of your childhood book treasures. I have quite a few since my family was one to NEVER throw things away. I even have some of the board games and books that were a part of my father and his siblings' lives. I know how much theses marks of childhood mean to us in later years and that is why I kept many of my own children's things - packed away in the Memory Box Closet until they get out of their 20's and begin to appreciate their past more. We become more nostalgic as we age, I think.

Joy!
Kathy
