Queen Elizabeth 11 Diamond Jubilee

THE CORONATION OF QUEEN ELIZABETH 11, 59 YRS AGO

I was just 7yrs old in June 1953
I can remember as if it were yesterday

I think the Queen is so beautiful and have never forgotten the excitement of the
party we had in the street where we lived.

I grew up in the West Midlands of England, although I now live in Australia

I have some mementoes from that day.

Everyone took part in the fancy dress at the party

The photo is of my two brothers,my mother and me all
dressed up
All the children were given gifts, a mug with Queen Elizabeth, a 5 shilling piece
in a little plastic case (my grandson has mine now in his coin  collection)
and post office stamps in a little commemorative card

My mother made all our costumes, even my crown

My mother was dressed as Good Queen Bess
I was Queen Elizabeth11
My elder brother was King Henry V111
I can't quite remember what my younger brother was.

Everyone decorated their homes, and windows. Banners and Flags were draped across the street.

This is a biscuit tin from the day
and a needlecraft magazine, cost one shilling, with embroidery patterns to commemorate the Coronation

reliving the excitement of that day.

I got to celebrate Mothers Day, late this year, because we were on holidays
Our Children  spoiled me as usual with lots of sweet gifts.
Mothers day wouldn't be Mothers Day without flowers.

This beautiful vase containing the flowers was made by my daughter.
She knows how much I love handmade gifts. Isn't it lovely?
The jar is a vintage Agee utility. I think they are for preserving.

Remarkable mosaic

We are still travelling between Melbourne and Adelaide on our holidays.

When we stopped for a picnic lunch in Portland
a fishing port just along from Warrnambool coming from the Great Ocean Road,Victoria
I was absolutely smitten by this beautiful Mosaic Shell.

I was in awe of the talent that must have gone into creating it.

I wanted to run my hands over it,sit on it and photograph  it.

The colours were a lot more vibrant than the photo's show.

Aren't the colours beautifully put together

How the artist managed to make this spiral I couldn't imagine.

I took these photo's while I am still on holidays(one day left)

I  thought I would show you Melbourne Central,a railway station and shopping mall
built around an old factory. The main part of the factory with its advertising is still there.(I forgot to photograph that, I was too busy admiring it)

The glass dome ceiling,You can see a little of the factory tower,
towering up towards the centre of the dome.

These are walkways between multiple floors, and the biggest pocket watch I have ever seen.
Although we have been to Melbourne many times before, we had never found the time to visit this Mall.  We made sure this time we did.

These lovely carriages are situated around the city.
They take passengers to various venues.

Country towns in Australia have many of these rotunda's,
in parks and like this one in the centre of the main street Ballerat, Victoria

Beach huts at Dramana on the Mornington Peninsula, Victoria

I am joining my usual blog parties this week
Won't you join me, You will will find them all on my right side bar.
