Milk and another thrifty find

After all the chocolate and Easter food over the weekend
all I wanted today was a nice cold glass of milk and biscuits. mmmm

You know I was also thinking about how much our milk has changed.
With all the talk these days about health and diet, we always drink low fat or light milk.

What seems like, not too long ago, milk came delivered on the door step in bottles ,like the ones I bought recently in the charity shop.

The milk had a few inches of cream sitting on top, which was lovely on our morning bowl of porridge.
Children received a free 1/3 pint of milk for recess at school.

There was only one type of milk, cows milk.
Now there's soy,rice,low fat,full cream U2, long life,high calcium,goats,the list goes on.
Confused? mmm I am,
just give me a glass of milk,
 just milk.

The bottles had silver tops, which we collected all year.
At Christmas time we threaded them onto long pieces of cotton, alternating with a cotton ball.
We draped them all over the Christmas tree.
It looked so nice and all the children got involved making them.

I wonder what kind goes into our chocolate?

My thrift find for this week
This lovely embroidered table mat.
It is embroidered with this lovely cottage garden on both ends
and crocheted around the edge, which I forgot to photograph :)
I think it is so pretty, and cost only $2
I seem to be getting a lot of $2 finds lately. lucky me.

I hope you all had a lovely blessed Easter weekend.

I love your embroidered linen piece! It is beautiful. I love old linens and buy any that I see.

My husband grew up on a farm and he yearns for that milk with the cream on the top. I always buy the fattening milk for everyone in the family except me. We go thru 2 gallons of milk a day--so wish it was delivered like it used to be!

I love that linen piece you found. So pretty.

Hi Jeanetteann, love your table mat! The cottage scene embroidery is so sweet! What a great price! I liked your little recap about milk. Yes, I remember getting milk in kindergarten. I don't think they do that anymore. I am a 1% drinker now days. Can't quite do the skim.
Hugs,
Jann

Loved your milk story. I remember the milk deliveries to the door and going out to my Grandfather's ranch and drinking milk fresh from the cow. Those were the days of sweet memories. The embroidered table mat is a lovely find. Happy Tea Day!

Hello Jeanetteann,
Milk and biscuits is a good choice after all the chocolate!
I remember well the cream on top of the milk and I so looked forward to having it on my porridge! Your little cow creamers in blue and white are adorable; love them! And your linen is lovely. Thanks so much for sharing and joining me for tea.

Blessings,
Sandi

Hi Jeanetteann,
I still remember when the milkman delivered our milk to our door steps. I must have been 5 or 6 and had the biggest crush on him. Hee, hee, hee. Needless to say we are big milk drinkers too. Awesome finds. Wishing you a wonderful day and hope you and yours had a beautiful Easter.

Hugs and Kisses,
♥Ana

When I was a little girl in Edinburgh, Scotland the milkman came around in a horse and cart and the milk bottles had a thick plug of cream on the top. The little birds used to peck holes through the silver tops and steal the cream! It is sad that our children won't have the same memories. Buying a cardboard carton of milk from the supermarket just isn't the same, somehow! God bless x

I have enjoyed visiting your blog for the 1st time. I grew up on a farm and Dad always milked a house cow. I never liked milk really. Not unless it was in rice pudding or baked custard etc. I remember in the 1970's we had the milk at school in the little 1/3 pint bottles. We had to drink it at little lunch and it was foul for 2 reasons. One I did not like milk to start with and two because it had been sitting in the sun for ages before we drank it, if you can even believe that. I used to hold my breath and drink it one go just to get rid of it. I also remember the 'town' kids collecting the milk bottle tops and using them to decorate at christmas time as you described. Good memories. Thanks for sharing.

Oh, you've brought back memories to me of the milk we got from my grandpa's farm. I did not like that cream on top and mother always scooped it off for me! :)
Love all your finds too.
Have a great weekend and be a sweetie,
Shelia ;)

Beautiful embroidered mat! My mother did lovely embroidery - unfortunately I didn't inherit her talent! I adore your little blue cows! I don't remember the milk man coming to the house, but I do remember the bread man. Such a different world back then!
